Biodiversity and ecosystem services
Alarmed by biodiversity loss, scientists, nature conservationists and more and more policymakers have recently started highlighting the services that ecosystems provide, e.g. food, clean water and air, places for recreation and habitats for animals and plants.
In collaboration with a group of formal and informal educators, e.g. scientists and wildlife managers, students will not only learn about sustainable ecosystem management but also study different ecosystem services and their values for the wellbeing of societies. By using collaborative, problem-, and inquiry-based learning approaches in a first Open Science Community in Slovenia, they will be able to understand and appreciate the diversity of ecosystem services. Capitalising on the expertise of MULTIPLIERS’ partners, the students will learn that ecosystem services can be in competition with each other, and even if they can be balanced, there may still be possible trade-offs.
