MULTIPLIERS Consortium Dedicates Open Schooling Hub to Prof. Shirley Simon

The MULTIPLIERS project consortium has honoured Prof. Shirley Simon, former Professor at University College London, by dedicating the newly launched MULTIPLIERS Open Schooling Hub to her memory. Prof. Simon, who served on the MULTIPLIERS Advisory Board since 2022, provided invaluable feedback on the project’s outputs and development until her passing earlier in 2024.
A distinguished Professor of Science Education at University College London’s Institute of Education, Prof. Simon began her research career in the 1980s. Her expertise spanned science inquiry, teacher education, learning progression, socio-scientific issues, and argumentation pedagogy. Since 1990, she published widely acclaimed research articles and books.
In 2022, Prof. Simon delivered a keynote lecture on the role of argumentation in open-school science learning projects at the MULTIPLIERS’ first dissemination event. Drawing from her extensive research on argumentation in science classrooms (2002–2016), she shared strategies for developing argumentation skills among students and participants, focusing on resource design, productive discussions, and evidence evaluation.
The MULTIPLIERS consortium extends deep gratitude to Prof. Simon for her significant contributions to the project, both as a valuable partner and a friend.
